4th International State-of-the-art Congress “Rehabilitation: Mobility, Exercise & Sports”

From April 7 - 9, 2009, the 4th International State-of-the-Congress "Rehabilitation: Mobility, Exercise, & Sports" will take place at the Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam.
The theme of the 4th congress underlines the development taking place in our research since 1991: from a strongly manual wheelchair-oriented focus back than, towards the much broader perspective of mobility restoration, active lifestyle, exercise, training and sports in the context of rehabilitation practice today. http://www.move.vu.nl/links/rehabmove2009/program/

Conference Report: 10th World Congress in Tokyo, Japan

Tokyo report

The Society for Tennis Medicine and Science held its 10th World Congress on the 3rd and 4th of October in Tokyo, Japan. Dr. Moroe Beppu was the host and program committee chairman of this landmark meeting as it was the first STMS congress in the Orient.
More than 240 attendants enjoyed the scientific program including symposiums, lectures, panel discussion, debates, free papers and poster presentations by international specialists and renowned Japanese doctors. Relevant topics included injuries of the upper and lower extremity, strengthening and conditioning, the “Heat Rule”, core stability and doping issues in tennis players, among others.
All past and present STMS Presidents, Ben Kibler, Per Renström, Babette Pluim, Marc Safran (pictured from left to right) were in Tokyo and delivered high level presentations, focused on the latest concepts related to tennis injuries and medical problems. Medical representatives from major international tennis organizations (ATP tour, WTA, and ITF) also attended and presented an interesting work-shop on injury prevention.
It was a great opportunity to share the most current knowledge on tennis medicine, play tennis, watch the AIG Open, and also to interact with other individuals world wide with similar interests.
The quality and organization of this 10th World Congress was “superb”. The STMS Board would like to congratulate Dr. Moroe Beppu and his team for their magnificent job and kind hospitality.
(You will be able to find more detailed information about the congress in the next issue of Medicine and Science in Tennis. Abstracts of the scientific presentations from the 10th STMS World Congress will be available soon).
