Tennis Training: Enhancing On-Court Performance
The book focuses on physical training in the sport of tennis. In general it does not give any new information. It contains summaries of existing literature and references to known facts. However, what makes this book so good is the information about training principles, training laws, periodisation and experiences from the practices, focused on tennis. Supported by science, clearly described and filled with pictures the book is filled with tennis-specific exercises.
“TENNIS TRAINING” makes physical training in tennis easy to understand and to use by coaches, parents and athletes. For coaches it is a perfect reference book after their education/training to tennis coach. ATP Tournament Physician’s ConferenceThe 2007 ATP Tournament Physicians Conference was held in Ponte Vedra Beach, Florida, home of the ATP’s American headquarters, on December 7-8. Approximately 90 physicians and physiotherapists attended. Presentations were given by the ATP’s Medical Directors, Sports Medicine Therapists and Tournament Physicians. In addition, invited speakers included Dr. Don Baxter, Dr. Peter Jokl, Dr. Ben Kibler and Dr. Marc Safran.
ATP Medical Services: An informative section included talks on heat, hydration and nutrition, and was followed by a very interesting mini-symposium on cardiac issues in tennis players. Symposia on foot and ankle injuries, muscle and tendon injury and the shoulder in elite overhead athletes provided the most up to date information on these important topics in tennis medicine. An update on ATP Medical Services included presentations on court calls, medical time-outs, anti-doping, the ATP’s Performance and Injury Prevention Screenings and the new medical software documentation system being developed for the ATP, WTA and ITF. An open forum provided the opportunity for tournament physicians and the ATP medical staff to discuss and address issues related to the care of ATP players at tournaments. Conference attendees enjoyed golf and tennis outings at the beautiful surrounding facilities. A conference banquet included recognition and presentation of awards to tournament physicians who have dedicated themselves over the years to providing the highest level of care to players at ATP tournaments. At first sight “TENNIS TRAINING” by Mark Kovacs, Britt Chandler and Jeff Chandler could be just one of the many books about tennis training. However, after studying it in more detail, it turns out to be a ‘must-have’ book for tennis medical and performance specialists.
